Domain, DNS & network tools
Domain, DNS and network APIs retrieve DNS records, registration details, presented TLS certificates and network ownership, and assess email addresses. An agent or script can call dns-lookup across a list of domains, use ip-info for addresses from a log, or monitor certificate expiry and chains with ssl-cert-info. The members obtain different kinds of evidence through DNS resolution, a TLS handshake, the whois protocol or curated datasets.
dns-lookup takes a domain and returns its DNS records with their TTLs. email-validate takes an email address and checks syntax, domain MX records, and disposable or role-account classification. ip-info accepts an IP address or domain and returns reverse DNS and network ownership. Its ownership information comes from a versioned dataset, while the reverse lookup needs the network.
ssl-cert-info reads the certificate a host presents and returns issuer, subject, subject alternative names, validity window, time to expiry and the full chain. whois returns domain registration fields, including registrar, creation, update and expiry dates, status codes and nameservers, alongside the raw response and a parsing confidence score. These APIs report records and certificates, not web-page content. Certificate validity dates and registration expiry dates describe different records, so the corresponding outputs serve different monitoring tasks.
01APIs
| API | What it does | Price | Max input | Max duration | Timeout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DNS Lookup API | DNS records for a domain (A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME, SOA, CAA) with their TTLs. | free | 2 MB | none | 5 s |
| Email Validate API | Validates an email address: syntax, MX records for its domain, and whether it is a disposable or role account. | $0.002 per call | 2 MB | none | 5 s |
| IP Info API | Reverse DNS (PTR) and network ownership for an IP address or a domain. | $0.002 per call | 2 MB | none | 5 s |
| SSL Cert Info API | Fetches the TLS certificate a host presents: issuer, subject, SAN list, validity window, days to expiry and the full chain. | $0.002 per call | 2 MB | none | 10 s |
| Whois API | Registration record for a domain over whois: registrar, creation/update/expiry dates, status codes and nameservers, with the raw response. | $0.002 per call | 2 MB | none | 12 s |
02Questions
- What does email-validate check?
- It checks email syntax, MX records for the domain, and whether the address is a disposable or role account. The disposable and role assessments use a curated dataset and rule set.
- How do certificate and registration lookups differ?
- ssl-cert-info reads the certificate a host presents, including its issuer, subject, alternative names, validity window and chain. whois returns registration information such as registrar, registration dates, status codes and nameservers, with the raw response and a parsing confidence score.
- What does ip-info return for an address or domain?
- It returns reverse DNS through a PTR lookup and network ownership information. The reverse lookup uses the network; ownership information comes from a versioned dataset.
